Well I guess I will probably be the only one who is reading this so I can basically say anything I would like too!!
My motivation to do this blog and how it came to be:
I'm not bragging or anything but I've always been a skinny girl. In high school I played sports and was always active, which helped me to stay skinny. I went to college and I continued to work out at the gym 5-6 days a week, almost 2 hours a day- about an hour of cardio and an hour of strength training. I knew I had an active lifestyle and I wanted to keep it. I lived with my sister in San Diego between my freshmen and sophomore year of college and had a health scare while I was there. One evening I started to shake uncontrollably. I thought it was just because I hadn't eaten recently so I fixed myself a meal. I was still shaking and I didn't know why. My sister was in RN school and she told me to go to the doctor so that they could do some tests. The next morning I went to the doctor and they did some blood tests. I had to wait a day for the results but here was what they were- my cholesterol was too high. The doctor told me it was above the reading on their machine and their machine read up to 400 pts!! You're suppose to have less then 200, I think....
Anyways, I was put on cholesterol lowering medicine that day. I was only 19 years old!!
I found out that my mom and grandma had the same thing. My grandma passed away at 63 years old because of a heart attack, and it was probably because of her high cholesterol. My mom is now on a medicine and aspirin to keep her blood from thickening- to keep her from having a heart attack. Nice GENES!!!
I took the medicine for a few months and then I stopped taking it because you weren't suppose to take it if you planned on having kids- and I was!!
I made a decision that day that I had to exercise more and eat healthy foods.
I lowered my score to about 180, which is still on the high scale of normal but its not 400 like it was!!!
So my story continues...
I haven't had a big problem with my cholesterol since then but I still watch what I eat. I try to eat whole grains, veggies, fruits and lean meat (good thing I'm not a huge fan or red meat!)
I kept up that lifestyle until I got married- I was 21 years old. After I met my spouse I never really made the time to work out, my priorities went other places.
In the past 5 years I've had 2 children and have gotten back to my original size I was when I got married, but the lack of energy lately has left me wondering what I could do!
So here I am today. I am almost 26 years old, not very active and have 2 children.
I want to be around to see my children have children and watch them grow up. I didn't say anything else about my health problems but let's just sum it up here- I have an abnormal Kidney to Badder Tract (leading to UTIs all the time) , I get kidney stones, I have high cholesterol, asthma, and many other things.
So today is the day I'm changing. I'm going to start exercising again and to motivate me I'm writing this blog to help me see the changes I'm going through and the problems. It is for me.
I can do it!!!
